Week 40, #2

October 1st, 2007 by dk

(This is close to #1 this week, but it’s a big deal.)

Federal Judge Ann Aiken gave the Bush administration and its compliant congress a slap when she ruled last week that the “sneak and peek” provisions of the USA Patriot Act violate the 4th Amendment of the Bill of Rights. What people may not understand is something Judge Aiken understands oh-so-well. Her word won’t be the final one on the matter, but her words are what the 9th Cicuit Court of Appeals will consider and almost certainly the United States Supreme Court after that. If her ruling stands the scrutiny of these judges above her, she’ll land on somebody’s short list for a seat on the Supreme Court herself.

Good thing she has all that experience as a Kidsports T-ball coach.

One of these four ideas will be developed into a column on Wednesday to be published in The Register-Guard on Friday. I’m asking you to help me choose between them. Between now and the end of Tuesday, leave comments here or send me an e-mail if you’d rather be more private. Or, at the very least, RATE the idea (and the others) so I know which one people like best. No promises, though. This ain’t American Idol. But I will post an entry on Wednesday to say which one I’m choosing (and probably why.) I plan to do this each week — often by Friday, but always by Monday, so visit often and tell me which idea intrigues you the most. Thanks!
