In a college town, it doesn’t take long to root a community tradition. People come and go in this town every half-decade, so we learn not to get too attached. The short attention span is built into the city’s ethos. So anything that has happened for a decade or more has lasted a couple of college town generations. It’s as if there are grandparents remembering wistfully what began in 1997. So it is with City Club of Eugene’s Holiday Gifts program. Like so many grand traditions, it has defied improvement. “If you could give any gift to the community this holiday season, what would it be and why?” You have three minutes to answer that question, and nearly 200 have. We’ll review some personal favorites from years past, and wonder what may be in store this year.
