RG44.2 why Obama won’t win

October 28th, 2007 by dk

Just when you thought you couldn’t get any more depressed about the attention span of the average American, comes this little factoid. Since the television reached half our households (1962), we have never elected a president with a three-syllable last name, much less one that sounds (ahem) “different.” In fact, you can even count the losers back to 1962 and you’ll find only one name with more than two syllables. Can you name that candidate? Dukakis. How did that work out? Of course, you could hope it’s about how many letters are in the name and on the lawn sign — in which case, Obama beats Clinton by one and “Hillary” by two. Now you know the real reason Hillary is no longer using “Rodham Clinton” — too many syllables.
