RG01.3 Congress and approval ratings

December 31st, 2007 by dk

Congress has lower approval ratings than the president. So what? Nobody votes for Congress. They only vote for their Congressperson. And very few of them ever lose. So the statistic is meaningless, except to say that the president isn’t the least popular politician in Washington. Except he is. If the Dems want 2008 to look better for them and their resolve to stand up to the president, they have to look at things from the other end of the scope. They should set five main themes for the year, and then arrange their calendar so each day of the week is devoted to that theme throughout the year. Scandals every Thursday. Education every Monday. Labor every Wednesday. Whatever topics they choose will be fine, but then regular people (and lazy reporters) can more easily track their accomplishments over the months that follow.
