40.15 the two halves of “free range”

October 3rd, 2007 by dk

When I used to take my dog Paco for a walk, he’d stop every 50 yards to mark his territory. It was annoying for me, but necessary for him. So I know how you’ll feel when I tell you I won’t write this week about the Bijou. I’m still busy claiming as wide a bearth as possible for the topics I tackle. When you think about it, the first half of “free range” isn’t so great if the second half wasn’t great first. I believe — and hope — that news from Oregon last week will be felt in Washington, D.C. and the sooner the better. So I will write about Judge Ann Aiken and her courageous stand against the USA Patriot Act. It’s an Oregon story today, but it could well be a national story sometime soon. Here’s hoping.
