So true, so true your 8/5 opinion on time. If I want to have lunch with a friend in Eugene, I’ll drive from my house in Elmira before 11 a.m., avoiding the quagmire H126/13th St. lunch crowd. Instead I drive the long way around through Fern Ridge Lake, slowly taking in its level and glancing at the amount of sail boats in it. And, if I choose to go to Sat. Mkt., in order to park on the 2nd level garage I’ll leave here by 7 a.m., getting there just as the merchants are setting up, I get the best buys and the conversations aren’t hurried. Of course, I might choose to stay away altogether and buy my veggies, though more limited, from our own Farmers’ Mkt in Veneta on Fri. afternoons. I save much more time and $$$ though there are fewer choices, but plusses are less gas mileage and a running banter with merchants I’m better acquainted with. There are trade-offs. I do love going into Eugene and like you, have learned to be street-wise. But living here at my age (71) has taught me to live daily taking small sips of the day instead of big swallows. There’s no hurry to finish my cup, thank you.
