Do you ever feel like a cartoon character? Maybe it’s just me, and what would be the surprise in that? Sometimes two ideas collide in my head and something like steam shoots out my ears. I planned to maybe write about the Wellsprings Friends School’s annual Free Sale. It’s just like a yard sale, except that everything is free. My original intent was to tell stories about how much this town loves free. I’ve collected a raft of them over the years, beginning of course with my feeble attempts to get people to enjoy the free newspaper I published without feeling entitled to it. I was going to warn LTD that beginning to charge for EmX could prove more difficult than they think. But I didn’t go that way at all, because last Sunday was Jubilee Sunday, pushing the World Bank to forgive third world debt as an expression of justice. So those two ideas banged around in my head this week, and what came out was a piece that combined them into a “think global, act local” screed disguised as a promotion for the school’s Free Sale.
