Quips, queries, and querulous quibbles from the quirky mind of Don Kahle

Why do people say 'after dark' when what they mean is 'during dark'? After dark would be when it's light again, right? * There are 10 types of people in this world -- those who read binary, and those who don't. * I'm rethinking the whole brown rice thing. What if it's just more white liberal self-hatred? Whole wheat, honey, unbleached flour. All better. Sez who? * Eugene should be HQ for White People for Diversity. We'll fight for diversity to be included in books, which is where we know to look for it. * Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, but give a man a pillow, and he'll dream of steak. * What can you say about a state that puts the town of North Bend 225 miles southwest of Bend? We rely on visitors for entertainment.

RG12 being Jean Tate

I remember a week at City Club when I couldn’t find my name tag. Jean Tate was nearby and offered me hers. Knowing an opportunity when I see one, I accepted, and I was Jean Tate for an hour. Afterwards, I had to go home and take a nap. Jean is one of many exceptionally strong women who have stepped into leadership roles in Eugene, and for that we can be thankful first and proud too, I suppose. Almost two months ago, Jean issued a challenge to the business community to put their money where their mouth is and begin a private investment fund that can help something happen downtown. I wanted to amplify that challenge, and this seems the week to do it — mostly because she’s speaking to City Club this Friday and I know I’ll see her there.
