Quips, queries, and querulous quibbles from the quirky mind of Don Kahle

Why do people say 'after dark' when what they mean is 'during dark'? After dark would be when it's light again, right? * There are 10 types of people in this world -- those who read binary, and those who don't. * I'm rethinking the whole brown rice thing. What if it's just more white liberal self-hatred? Whole wheat, honey, unbleached flour. All better. Sez who? * Eugene should be HQ for White People for Diversity. We'll fight for diversity to be included in books, which is where we know to look for it. * Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, but give a man a pillow, and he'll dream of steak. * What can you say about a state that puts the town of North Bend 225 miles southwest of Bend? We rely on visitors for entertainment.

Is it too soon for Obama to announce who will receive key positions in his unity administration? Is it too soon to say out loud that Hillary will be offered Secretary of Health, Education & Welfare if he’s elected? Is it too soon to announce that John McCain will be offered his choice of Secretary of Defense or Secretary of State, even if he’s the Republican nominee that runs against Obama in the general election? Is it too soon to let people know that Bill Clinton will be offered no position, but that he’ll be encouraged to retire gracefully? And Vice President? Is it too soon to ask Michael Bloomberg to join an ultimate unity ticket, joining a “short, Jewish mayor” and business tycoon with a lanky Christian black legislator whose middle name is “Hussein”? Oh, and if Bloomberg would care to throw a billion dollars of his own money in, that may send a powerful message to G.O.P. fundraisers or Romney’s financial advisors, before the real contest begins.
