They might have said that in the 60&#039;s or 70&#039;s, but they haven&#039;t been saying that for a long time since.  Any progressive thinkers on development have given up on give aways to private business.

And Chambers of Commerce typically love them.  You act surprised that the Eugene Chamber is behind extending Eugene&#039;s.  Why wouldn&#039;t they accept millions in government cash?  That&#039;s the way it&#039;s done all over the country.  Just ask Blackwater how they like gov&#039;t handouts!

I don&#039;t think I want to give millions of taxpayer dollars to a private company to chain store the downtown, while they get a guaranteed 13% profit, no matter what results.  Call me quirky, but I think a better plan could be had.  

It needn&#039;t be perfect.  Just good.</description>
