Loading ...Saturday is National News Carrier Appreciation Day. Unlike Secretary’s Day and Mother’s Day and Kwanza, this isn’t a day dreamed up by greeting card companies to sell more small tokens of appreciation. It really was dreamed up by newspapers to thank the people who put the news they gather on your doorstep, usually before you wake. Most people believe, without ever thinking it, that anything that happens while they sleep is slightly miraculous. They may not be wrong. Napoleon always attacked at 3 AM because it’s too late for the night people and too early for the morning people. He referred to it as 3 AM courage. News carriers, in my experience, often have that.
