Quips, queries, and querulous quibbles from the quirky mind of Don Kahle

Why do people say 'after dark' when what they mean is 'during dark'? After dark would be when it's light again, right? * There are 10 types of people in this world -- those who read binary, and those who don't. * I'm rethinking the whole brown rice thing. What if it's just more white liberal self-hatred? Whole wheat, honey, unbleached flour. All better. Sez who? * Eugene should be HQ for White People for Diversity. We'll fight for diversity to be included in books, which is where we know to look for it. * Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, but give a man a pillow, and he'll dream of steak. * What can you say about a state that puts the town of North Bend 225 miles southwest of Bend? We rely on visitors for entertainment.

He’s a UO grad, with fond memories. What he learned here has helped him make millions from his office outside Portland. He loves the Ducks, so he wants to invest some of his money in Eugene. A lot of money, by local standards. How is $100 million for round numbers? Sure, that money could make more money faster in California, or even closer to home in Portland. But there’s something about the Ducks, and the memories that wash over him whenever he comes to Eugene. He knows it’s not necessarily the single best use for his money, but he has to follow his heart.

Meet Ron Skov, a principal for KWG Development Partners, the group that wants to remake two blocks of downtown Eugene.

One of these four ideas will be developed into a column on Wednesday to be published in The Register-Guard on Friday. I’m asking you to help me choose between them. Between now and the end of Tuesday, leave comments here or send me an e-mail if you’d rather be more private. Or, at the very least, RATE the idea (and the others) so I know which one people like best. No promises, though. This ain’t American Idol. But I will post an entry on Wednesday to say which one I’m choosing (and probably why.) I plan to do this each week — often by Friday, but always by Monday, so visit often and tell me which idea intrigues you the most. Thanks!
